Just over a week ago I posted about my 1yr anniversary since leaving the corporate world (after 25 years!) and since I left my “job” I have been focused on how I can live my passion and do what I love every moment of every day – spending more time with my family and Helping YOU Ignite Your SPARK.
My name is Stephanie Barros. I am a wife, mother of 3, daughter, sister, friend and colleague. Over the course of my corporate career I held various different roles. But in the last 6 years I spent more time and money engaging in personal development than my professional development. Why? Some would say I had a mid-life crisis, I like to view it as a “mid-life awakening”. I wanted more, I wanted to feel more alive and engaged – I had looked around me and thought is this really all there is? I had lost my spark, my zest for life. I was scaling the corporate ladder but I didn’t really feel fulfilled. My mental, emotional and physical energy was erratic and…
I wanted to spend more quality time with my family and be a role model for my children.
During my time in the corporate world I was very blessed to be able to spend part of my time leading, mentoring, coaching and developing others but it wasn’t enough! I knew because of the joy and satisfaction it brought me and the people I was working with that I didn’t want that to just be part of my time I wanted it to be my whole time.
And cutting a long story short, 2 years ago I was standing on the top of Mt Kilimanjaro (the highest mountain in Africa) and I had an epiphany! [You can read more about my Kili journey here.]
I wanted to focus my time helping others live life fully!
That may not sound like an epiphany to you, but for me it was huge. I had always thought I would be an employee, I had been okay with being part of an organisation’s mission. But I realised standing on top of that mountain that that was no longer the case. I wanted to fulfill my own mission helping others ignite their spark to be the best they can be ALL the time, not just the small amount of time I was able to carve out for my team. And for MORE people, not just the few I came into contact with at work.
The one thing that had remained constant throughout my career was my ability to help others find and reach their potential. My greatest feeling of joy and sense of satisfaction came from seeing others really achieve – whether that be a new job, a greater level of confidence, or a solution to a problem; whatever it was, knowing I played a small part in helping others identify their goal and reach it is really what kept me going.
So I am so very pleased to be able to say I now devote my time to coaching, speaking and facilitating Helping YOU Ignite Your SPARK!
