It’s February! Since we’ve already finished the first month of the year, how many of you have realised now you really do need to do something about those holiday lapses? I know I have. My husband thought it strange that my plan was to wait and detox in February but from my perspective it was completely rational – December and January were nutritional and exercise lapses so February is the time to start!

So as at the first of the month my plan was to return to a more regimented exercise routine and “purge my body” of the toxins I had so happily put into it during the holiday period – so why is it so hard???

I certainly don’t think I lack the motivation but I’ve struggled with summoning the energy to exercise and make the right food choices.  And then it dawned on me – Brendon Burchard refers to the body as the “power plant” i.e. the power plant doesn’t have energy, it generates energy – all the toxins I had put into my body had turned my power plant into an inefficient energy generator!

Really, our bodies are amazing machines albeit complex.  We put “food” in and our body converts it to energy, and exercise helps keep the machine running optimally.

And what had I been doing for the last two months?  Running that machine down.  I had been putting in the wrong fuel and certainly hadn’t been keeping it in optimal running order – no wonder it was sluggish!

Unfortunately such a complex mechanism can’t be fixed overnight so whilst the idea of a detox or at least eating better and exercising is the right one from my perspective, it will take some time to get back to an optimum state.  Something I will need to keep pushing through to get to that inflection point when the right fuel really kicks in and my energy levels amp up.

I don’t know about you, but I do struggle at times with consistency in my diet and exercise regimes. This has always resulted in me having variable energy levels.  When I’m ‘good’ in these areas, my level of energy is high but sustaining it at that level is sometimes a challenge…and of course when the discipline falters, so do my energy levels!

Really understanding the concept of my body as a power plant has opened my eyes to being better able to sustain a consistent level of energy.  I certainly find that when my energy is high, achieving high performance is much more effortless. It’s no wonder Energy is one of the crucial elements of high performance!*
