A week ago my family (myself, my husband and two youngest children aged 12 and 9) set out on our “round the world” adventure. This had been a dream of ours for some time and on Monday, 22 April 2019 it began to come true.

For years my husband Adrian and I had said wouldn’t it be great to travel the world with our kids and learn to live, work, play and educate on the road. It became part of our “inspiring life” we penned in 2012 and refined again in 2014. At that stage, we discussed it with the kids and said when our eldest had finished school and the two younger ones were still in primary school ie 2019, would be the best time to go…

In the intervening years we discussed it regularly, keeping a note on all the places we’d like to visit. During 2018 as the “date” got closer we seriously started investigating our options for schooling and where we really could go. But it wasn’t until December 2018 when we arrived back from our 2-week Florida holiday that we decided on 9 months roughly split between the west coast of the US, the Mediterranean (Europe) and Asia.

The plan was to hire an RV in the US and drive up and down the mid west and west coast. Travel by train and stay in hostels in Europe through the UK, Italy, potentially Greece the south of France and Spain; then visit friends throughout Asia. All the while learning to live on the road whilst working and playing while the kids undertook distance education. So, one week ago we got on the plane from Sydney to LA to start our adventure!

And what a first week it has been! Since it was still school holidays we spent 4 days in LA doing the tourist sightseeing thing and experienced Hollywood Boulevard, the La Brea Tar Pits, Santa Monica Pier and The Getty Centre. Then on Friday picked up the RV and started south. First stop The Joshua Tree National Park, next stop San Diego for the start of “school” for the kids and a week of re-certification for certified high performance coaching for me.
