How are YOU communicating?

Are you sometimes frustrated by your interactions with your significant other, your work colleagues, your kids?

You’re speaking the same language, and yet misunderstandings still happen! So here’s a strategy YOU can try…

The game of life is not like solitaire – it’s not a one-person game.

On a daily basis, we are interacting with other human beings playing their game of life.

And whilst the playing field may look the same, and some of the rules may be the same (like the laws we abide by), how we play the game and interpret the game is unique to each of us.

So, it’s critical we remember that how we interact is within our control, and if we want to be successful at the game, we must learn to speak the same language.

But how do we know what language to speak when everyone plays the game differently???

• First, there’s the language of our country.
• There’s the language of our job or workplace and all the unique acronyms and abbreviations that exist.
• There’s the language of our bodies.
• There’s the language of our relationships, e.g. love languages.
• There’s the language of learning, e.g. VAK.
• There’s the language of thinking, e.g. introverted vs extroverted.

With all those different languages, how do we ensure any interaction we have is successful?  How do we ensure we can communicate in a way that the other person can understand?

The key lies in understanding the other persons’ way of playing the game, their constraints, their aspirations, what they need/want, acknowledging the differences, and finding a mutual playing field.

So ACKNOWLEDGE the differences first, then find the common ground or common language – the ASPIRATION you are both working towards, and then communicate 🙂
