Frequently Asked

What is High Performance Coaching?

Coaching can be the thing that transforms your life and High Performance Coaching is different to other coaching programs. Coaching is a little different than mentoring. It’s different than a therapist. It’s different than an expert. It’s different than a consultant. And that can be why a lot of people are confused about coaching. You know you want more. You know there’s another level of life you want to get to, and you know you need a coach, but you’re not exactly sure why.

The first reason people hire me as their High Performance Coach is for clarity. You know you need a new level of focus. You need a new level of understanding, of certainty, of confidence in where you’re going. You need that objective person asking you intelligent, thoughtful, provoking questions that help you break through.

Another reason people have me as their High Performance Coach is for congruence. If you say something is important to you and you don’t stick to it, as your coach who has your best interests in mind, I will keep you accountable with no judgement. I’ll let you know about it and do it in a caring way, but I’ll keep you congruent.

The third reason people hire me as their High Performance Coach is for challenge. We all need someone to help push us to that next level. To challenge your limited thinking. To challenge the way you interact with others. To challenge you when you get distracted, but also to challenge you to rise into your highest self.

The last reason people hire me as their High Performance Coach is for camaraderie. No one wants to go it alone in life. We all need a cheerleader, someone in our corner supporting us and cheering us on. Accomplishing things can feel pretty lonely. But when you have me as your coach, every week or every fortnight we get to connect. My role is not to be your friend, but in the process it can start to feel like that. You will know that at least you have me to speak with regularly and know you’re going to get that jolt, that perspective, that clarity, that path and you’re going to feel true to yourself again. If anything, you will have me to give you remarkable energy every week and to help refire your own clarity and your confidence to move forward.

The difference in High Performance Coaching versus all the other coaching out there is the way it is structured to move you ahead. That’s why you need me, your High Performance Coach, because no matter what’s happened in your life, no matter whether you move towards your goal or didn’t move towards your goal, every session there’s a curriculum in which I’m going to ask you questions to help you grow and advance as a person and a contributor, no matter what your goals are. The way that High Performance Coaching is structured is every session has an outcome that is moving you towards High Performance as a person, no matter what you do so that you can have confidence that every single time we connect, I will move you forward, no matter what’s going on in your world!

Who is High Performance Coaching for?

High Performance Coaching won’t help the “Yeah Yeah Yeah” person who knows everything but doesn’t have the discipline to truly implement with consistency and excellence. You’ve probably heard this phrase before: common sense is not always common practice. So try not to be one of those people who says,”Yeah, yeah, I’ve heard this before.” In personal or professional development, not a whole lot of new ideas are out there every single year. However, there is always new research. There’s always new distinctions that really can move the needle. We all get caught up and we get busy, so no way is it true that every one of us is doing everything. So maybe I can add elements to the most important areas that if you did focus on, you’d get the greatest bang for your buck. So be a “Yes-yes-yes person,” invest in yourself and be willing to apply, instead of being the dismissive person. The people who are more disciplined than those who are dismissive get ahead.

This process will probably not help the “Excuse” person who always finds a reason not to take action. If you make a suggestion for someone to take action, the “Excuse” person would say, “Well, you don’t understand my community,” or, “You don’t understand where I’m at,” or, “You don’t understand this.“ So just focus on what’s true for you and what might help you versus thinking about 50 other contexts that it might not be true. What matters is, if you focus in this specific area, would it move the needle for you? Not where you have been or a super specific thing about yourself, because the reality is, sometimes it’s just important to get moving again.

The third type of person this isn’t for is the “Fear” person who won’t try new things and who just says, “Well, this is the way it’s always going to be. Nothing’s ever going to change.” People like this mask their certainty that nothing will ever change when the truth is, they’re just scared. Fear is a big issue for a lot of people, and you need to be prepared to tackle it in High Performance Coaching.

The last person High Performance Coaching won’t help is the person who says, “I Don’t Want Change”, and who’s trapped in today. Because ultimately, if you’re really going to reach the next level, you have to have ambition for the next level. You have to be the person who says “I want change. I’m looking for transformation. I’m open to my breakthrough. I’m excited about discovering something new.” And if you’re that person, High Performance Coaching will help you.

Why does High Performance Coaching work?

High Performance Coaching works, as it is based on data, science and research. The High Performance Coaching process has been academically and peer reviewed by the High Performanc Institute (HPI).

HPI conducted global surveys, and structured one-on-one interviews. HPI conducted data analytics from over a million high performance indicator assessment data points, and over 300,000 organizational employees in their partner organizations participated in the studies. HPI have over 1.6 million online students, two million newsletter subscribers, over 10 million Facebook followers, and over 100 million video views and comments. HPI ran all that data and compared it to academic literature reviews, alongside coaching insights from over 3000 high performance coaching sessions with a 9/10 satisfaction rating.

Measuring High Performance: The High Performance Indicator Development and Validation
By Alissa J. Mrazek, Michael D. Mrazek, University of California Santa Barbara; Daniel A. Southwick, University of Pennsylvania; Brendon Burchard High Performance Institute
Abstract: The desire to maximize potential and performance is one of the greatest motivators of the human spirit. Philosophers, scientists, and personal development leaders have long sought to understand the attitudes, behaviors, and traits that enable people to excel, succeed over the long term, and make the most oftheir lives. However, despite their mutual interest in the topic, little has been done to synthesize efforts across fields. Under the direction of Brendon Burchard, scientists and high performance coaches at High Performance Institute collaborated to create an assessment that measures the habits that lead to long-term success across domains. The assessment, called the High Performance Indicator (HPI), is comprised of six subscales that separately measure clarity, energy, necessity, productivity, influence, and courage. Two studies with a total of 174,054 participants, showed that the HPI was predictive of several important life outcomes. In Study 1, the HPI was predictive of happiness (r = .58), confidence (r = .67), education level (rs = .137), perceived excellence, (r = .50) and perceived success in comparison to peers to over the long term (r = .67, p < .001). However, the internal consistency and dimensionality of HPI subscales in Study 1 could be improved due to some unclear questions and overlapping items. In Study 2, modified HPI items showed a high-level of internal consistency for each subscale (Cronbach’s α’s from .74 to .87), and a latent dimensionality that reflected six unique constructs. Similar to Study 1, HPI scores in Study 2 were predictive of important life outcomes, such as life satisfaction (r = .62), quality of interpersonal relationships (r = .22), work quality (r = .60), career impact (r = .58), and income (rs = .23). Subsequent analysis of n = 109 attendees of High Performance Academy provided evidence that these habits could be substantially enhanced through high performance training (d = 1.04).
